Somewhere in storage I have an old tape of an interiview with Jerry, that carries almost exactly the same sentiment. As an artist, and a creator of "things", it has always stood out as a good way to justify why I continue to plow forward as an artist. I've been fortunate enough to eek out a meager living as an artist, but the past few years has been a real challenge. Wonder if Obama heard the same tape?...

I'm a potter. Don't make anything weird (anymore). Make useful things for cooking and serving food. Google me if you like, no secret screen name here.

Just thought since the Dead were playing the inauguration tonight. Our new Preznit may have a stash of tapes somewhere. Almost word for word from what I remember from the Jerry interview.

You got it, that's us, and thanks. Been a long time working in the mud. Better than slingin' it, I like to say. There's a lot of us artist types out there that are hanging on by our fingernails. A lot of discussion going around is that arts and crafts are the future of the new economy. We actually make something... tangible in the good ol' U. S. of A... and we're proud of our work and stand by it.

One of the reasons I'm going to see the Dead this spring. Although I can hardly afford it, I like to support other artists. Not that any of them have ever bought pottery from me, but friends of mine have sold a few of the members of the Dead art over the years. One has a credit card slip with Jerome Garcia's signature framed in his living room.
